How to Plunge

After you have couched a thread, the end will need to be secured.  To do so, you will need a large darning needle to sink the end to the underside of the canvas.  Cut the gold thread about 1 or 2 inches long. Look at the illustration.  You will see gold thread which is ready to be sunk.  Take the darning needle and poke the canvas where you would like to end the thread. Before passing the needle completely through, thread the needle with the gold/metal thread.  Thread the gold thread but leave a small loop of thread on the side of the needle toward the embroidery.  Pass the threaded needle to the underside.  You will couch the tail with the same thread in which you were couching the entire length of gold thread.
